Hitomi Murakami's solo exhibition "Floating Life" will be held in front of Art Editions at Ginza Tsutaya (GINZA SIX 6F, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) from 13 November to 3 December 2021.
It is said that the lovely past and even the future are only fleeting illusions, and that our attachment to the bubbling life is the source of our suffering. But even though I know the truth in my head, I have yet to understand it in a way that makes sense to me. I can't help wishing that the joy of encounter, the sadness of separation and even a single flower I don’t want to make it as if it never happened.
We have developed the sensitivity to see in the decay of a beautiful flower the fragility of the human mind and body. Is it painful to see a woman burdened with a flower that is still decaying? Or does it look like a place of peace?
If there is a meaning to the life that is taken and given, it may be for the day when the dignity of the person who is being scattered by the wind and rain will be scooped up. This is what I think about as I face the soil. If we are suffering because of this hope, then it could be a step towards true happiness.
