Hattori Shihori based in Kyoto absorbs the pictorial expression, technique, and sentiment which are the origin of Japanese art such as Yamato-e (classical Japan decorative paintings), Kano School, Rinpa School, and Ukiyo-e. And powerfully she creates her paintings with her fresh sensitivity.
She says, “The essence of Asian paintings is the line.” She is skillful in paintings of glamorous rooster with classical techniques and human figure with clear lines of ink. The things she depicts have a strong originality and an abundant world.
In this exhibition we introduce artworks by free-spirited Ukiyo-e painters such as Kuniyoshi and Kunisada with artworks by Hattori Shihori.
