What the two artists have in common is that they are both from and live in Hokkaido, the northern area in Japan. Perhaps that's why the colors are so pale and the worldview is so far-reaching and somehow mysterious/dreamy.
Amanatsu Aono uses Japanese painting techniques, but she is not bound by the outdated traditions. it is truly pleasing to the eye, her unique expression which pull at the heart of the people.
Erika Kusumi is an artist who uses the technique of digital photo collage. She uses only the photographs took by herself as materials for her artworks. In her artworks we can find incompatible things…like a Life and death, hope and despair. Also, we may feel somehow nostalgic and at the same time something came from the future.
