“Derori” is a word coined by the Japanese painter Ryusei Kishida. The word expresses a grotesque and mysterious world and it can be regarded as a notion that penetrates deeply into Japanese art. On the present occasion, several painters of the younger generation are challenging this subject, and both the young and experienced painters will compete in attempting to capture the characteristics of “derori”.
